10 healthy habits you can learn from your cat
Cats are the most adorable and controversial pets, humans got chosen to have. Chosen literally, because it is believed that cats decided to get closer to us, for a better living and survival rate (basically easier food procurement).
Even if you don’t own a cat (or correctly said no cat chose you as their provider 😉) you can still benefit from learning some of the healthy habits they follow:
1. Keep the same waking hour every day
Cats are definitely morning ‘persons’. They respect their waking hour, consistently every day, and they might even wake you up if you oversleep.
If you have a cat, you might already know they work better than an alarm clock, and they do call on you, especially on weekends, when you most likely (want to) sleep more.
2. Stretching is a must
The first thing after waking up is stretch. Your body is stiff after sleeping, so you need to get those core muscles active and help your blood flow.
Follow cats’ habits and do, for example, a sun salutation, up dog – down dog, or a cow-cat stretch.
3. Eat well
Needless to say, good food makes your mind and body work properly, but when and how you eat is also important. Cats teach us that proper nutrition has to be available, and happiness means your food plate is full.
Of course, cats don’t need to diversify their dish as much as humans do (though they do eat greens, as well 😉), but they are a good quality checker, also, for some of the food we eat. For your curiosity, check if your cat eats the canned tuna you buy (or milk, or chicken, or cold cuts), and if they don’t touch it, you shouldn’t either!
4. Go for a short walk outside each day
Every morning, if possible, for example, if you have a garden, your cat will want to go out, run a bit, feel some fresh air, watch some birds, hunt some bugs, and eat some grass, if available.
You should mimic this behaviour and go out for fresh air every day. Add some steps to this, at least for 30 minutes. Bird watching is also a good idea!
5. Lay in the sun
Vitamin D helps your bones stay healthy and strong and makes you feel energised and optimistic. It’s very easy to boost it from sun exposure, within healthy safe limits, obviously.
Follow your cat and lay in the sun, at least for a few minutes daily, when the weather allows it. You will definitely feel your energy and well-being increasing.
6. Play at least one hour daily
Keep a young mind and spirit by playing from time to time. Yes, it’s ok also as a grown-up to play, even older cats do it.
Choose an entertaining hobby and have fun with it. Cats for example love football (or volleyball, if you prefer) – a ball can be anything that moves by the touch of a paw), jumping and running around – after flying entities or imaginary flying entities, hunting with bare arms – whatever you want, and, the best games, ‘hide and seek’, or ‘catch me if you can’.
7. Hygiene and grooming are very important
Now, this is one of the lessons best taught by cats. Their hygiene and grooming are so important to them, that they can become a bit obsessed with self-licking. But it makes sense when they cannot use a shower… so even more of a reason for us to remember that personal hygiene is never overrated.
Keep in mind, washing and grooming makeup for beautiful and shiny fur, aka skin.
8. Cuddle with your loved one as much as possible
Cats are masterminds when it comes to getting attention and cuddles. They are sweet, fluffy, and funny and you cannot resist them. Also, they reward you for your loving services by purring, and the purring comes with added benefits for us.
Very similar, humans feel better when they hug someone else, so add more cuddling and loving gesture to your life, as it will make you feel good and uplifted.
9. Vocally express your needs, in your own language
There are different personalities in cats, just as there are in humans. Some might ‘talk’ more, some less, but eventually, all of them will ‘speak up’ when in need of something.
It is believed that cats developed meowing especially for us, as a method of communication, so follow their example and always communicate your needs and desires.
10. Get lots of good sleep
Last, but definitely not least, getting a good and restful amount of sleep is vital, just as food is. Without sleep, no one can function correctly, not even computers. And cats know this very well.
So, keep in mind, resting is key to further success!
